Emperia Trading Group – 20 Years of Growth

Sales revenues of Emperia Trading Group are expected to reach PLN 6 billion this year. Investment outlays will be also significant: the Group has budgeted PLN 200 million for development. These figures are the best reflection of the scale of the company’s operations, which celebrates its 20 years in the market this year.

Looking at Emperia’s track record, one cannot help but notice that the group is extremely busy, and as the years go by one success follows another. Almost each year the group has beaten its growth record, in terms of sales, investment outlays, number of outlets or headcount. Compared only to last year, this year sales are expected to grow by a hefty half a billion zloty, with an improvement of net profit in excess of 20 percent. The group will also spend more than PLN 40 million on capital development, including mainly investments in supermarkets and new cash and carry locations. Looking at the headcount growth dynamics in the recent years, one can expect that at the end of the year Emperia will add another one thousand employees to its workforce.

“Twenty years ago, even in my wildest dreams I did not expect that I will have the privilege and responsibility to be at the helm of such a strong and powerful organisation. We are currently the largest Polish trading group. We do have reasons to be proud,” says Artur Kawa, Chairman of Emperia’s Management Board. “Most of the objectives that we sought to achieve have been successfully attained. We are currently streamlining the organisation, we are focusing on quality, productivity and costs. We are looking at further mergers and market consolidation. We want to grow further and improve our financial performance, this is our continuous objective,” adds Kawa.

The group was established in 1990 with a workforce of 5 in a small warehouse in the centre of Lublin. Today Emperia is the leader of the Polish trading sector. Operating through its wholesale business, mainly based on Tradis, it supplies over 27 thousand products to 50 thousand outlets throughout Poland. Emperia manages over 4 thousand outlets of various formats, both large supermarkets and small grocery stores, operating as franchises. Emperia subsidiaries throughout Poland have 13 thousand employees on their payroll. Emperia Holding SA, a joint-stock company listed on the Stock Exchange in Warsaw, coordinates the operations of Emperia Trading Group.
