As dreams give you wings, it is worthwhile making them come true. For a 12-year-old Kasia, who has been fighting leukaemia for months, a laptop computer with Internet access was a dream come true.
The girl fell ill suddenly, a huge haematoma appeared on her body. The alarmed mother took Kasia to a hospital in Lublin. Unfortunately, the diagnosis was unequivocal: leukaemia. Kasia was admitted at once to the oncology ward of the Medical School Hospital for Children. She was given chemotherapy.
While Kasia’s world changed in an instant, she has never stopped dreaming.
I Have a Dream Foundation, which helps make dreams come true to children suffering from life-threatening diseases, approached the Management Board of the Emperia Trading Group asking for help in making Kasia’s dream come true.
And so, on a March day, Elżbieta Świniarska, Economic Director, with representatives of I Have a Dream Foundation, Magda and Krystian, met Kasia the Dreamer. At Kasia’s home, there was Kasia accompanied by her mother and two (of seven) siblings, two-year old Kinga and ten-year-old Radek.
The girl lives in a small town near Lublin, the day of the visit was one of the last days of a three-week leave from hospital.
While she is only twelve, Kasia knows what she wants to be when she grows up. Her dream is to be an accountant, and the laptop computer she received as a gift was to help her study, because—as everyone knows—to become a professional accountant one needs education. The Economic Director told the Dreamer about the accounting profession and invited her in the future to visit Emperia to watch a professional accounting department at work. Maybe when Kasia grows up she will be able to benefit from one of the placement programmes in Emperia and make her dream come true in practice.
Planning to visit Kasia, Emperia representatives remembered also about the rest of the family and brought sweets for the children and necessary food products for the parents to help the family prepare for the coming Easter.
Making sure that the laptop computer and the Internet access are fully operational, we said goodbye to Kasia and her family with a sense of having made a dream come true.
